Hi everyone,
Today I will be talking about three important people in the Russian Revolution. I will be showing you a step by step tutorial on how to write a mini-biography on these three people. This type of task is especially important when Mr Grinham asks for 150-200 words, and then you turn up the next day, and he actually reads it.
Step 1: Read the question. In this example, the question is “Create three mini biographies of significant people, illustrated with pictures and quotations/ How/why are they important to your topic. Once you notice that sentence is actually grammatically correct, you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: Type in “three important people in the Russian Revolution” (or whatever your topic is). Find pictures and quotes linked to how important they are to it. Or you can copy and paste it. I did both.
Step 3: I went on Sparknotes (second link) and found the 3 people that I recognised the most. They were Nicolas II, Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin.

Step 4: Type the names of the people into Biography.com, to make sure that you use more than one source.
So, this method does not involve Wikipedia, uses a variety of sources, and as long as you don’t copy and paste (big no no), you will be alright.
Here are three examples:
Vladimir Lenin:

Here are three examples:
Vladimir Lenin:
“Give us an organization of revolutionaries, and we will overturn Russia”
Considered as a highly influential figure of the 20th century, Lenin was the first person to overthrow the Russian monarchy and ended up forming the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). He was born on April 22nd 1870, in Simbirsk, Russia. The town was then named Ulyanovsk, in honour of his given last name: Ulyanov. He was very good at school, finishing first in Latin and Greek.
In 1887, his brother, Alexandr, was killed after he was accused of trying to assassinate Emperor Alexander III. He went to Kazan University to study law, but then got expelled after a student demonstration (unike Mr Abbott – who let the students stay at uni). But, he ended up getting his degree in 1892, and then moved to a town called Samara, where he learnt about the struggles of many peasants.
Lenin then got arrested for holding Marxist values. After Russia lost a few wars in the early 20th century, citizens wanted a change in politics. The emperor said he made some mistakes, but Lenin was not satisfied. In a 1912 party conference in Prague, Lenin split from the Bolsheviks to create a separate group.
By 1917, Russia had fought too many wars and hated the Tsars. In 1917, Lenin led the October revolution, and 3 years of civil war followed, against the might of the White army (Tsars) and its allies. As the war went on, Lenin swept away anyone who was in his way.
Lenin came out victorious, but the peasants still weren’t happy, so he let them trade grain in a new economic policy. He suffered a stroke and peacefully died, another stroke later, but he was unhappy with the way Stalin was running the country.
Joseph Stalin:

Joseph Stalin:
“It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”
Stalin had taken over Russia when Lenin had died, and was known as a ruthless dictator. He was born in a village of Gori, Georgia, on December 18, 1879. At 7, he had the measles, making him have an scarred face and an underdeveloped left arm.
Stalin did well in school and after that, he ended up joining a secret organisation called Messame Dassy. This supported the Georgian independence from Russia, and members from that group showed him people like Lenin. He had left school early in 1899, some sources say that he was unable to pay the tuition and others say he was challenging Nicholas II. During this time, he had adopted the name Stalin, which meant steel in Russian.
He did not have any special skills, but he did the simple things very well, such as meetings and leaflets. He was infamously associated with the Tiflin bank robbery, when about $3.4 million US dollars was stolen. By 1917, the Russian revolution began, and the Tsar was under house arrest.
In 1922, Stalin was the general secretary of the newly created Communist Party. It was not high up in the order, but he still had control over member appointments, which allowed him to select the right people.
After Lenin’s death in 1924, Stalin took total control over the party. Some members were exiled, and this was when his reign of terror began. Stalin thought that everyone working hard would boost food production, and he effectively reversed what Lenin had done. Lots of people were killed due to food shortages and not agreeing with the new standards.
As war came in 1939 Stalin signed a treaty with Hitler and then got raided, because Hitler was lying. After this, events start to go into WWII, so from here on things aren’t important regarding the Russian Revolution, which was turned on its head by Stalin.
Nicholas II:

Nicholas II:
“I am not prepared to be a tsar. I never wanted to become one. I know nothing of the business of ruling.” A lot like Louis XVI, and ended up like him as well.
Nicholas II inherited the throne when his father died at the age of 49. He married Princess Alix within a month of his father’s death. He received his education through lots of private tutors. When he was 19, he joined the army, and rose to colonel.
He and his wife had their first daughter Olga in 1895, Tatiana in 1897, Maria in 1901, and Alexei in 1904.
In 1904, Japan had attacked Russia and Russia was forced to surrender to Port Arthur, but there were greater concerns.
On the 5th of January 1905, demonstrations were sent towards Nicholas II regarding fair pay and working conditions. However, a thousand people were killed and this day was known as Bloody Sunday. He had thought that God made him rule the country, but he eventually resigned, creating elective legislation called the Duma.
In World War I, Russia performed poorly, so Nicholas made himself commander in chief, but his wife had become disinterested. Over the course of the war Russia blamed Nicholas for the defeat. By 1917, riots broke out. By March 15, riots broke out an Nicholas was abdicated from the throne.
